Known both as the guitarist / producer in Death Cab for Cutie and as an in-demand producer of other independent-minded artists (Tegan & Sara, The Decemberists), Walla brings a refined aesthetic and melodic ear to everything he involves himself in. Walla's past recordings of his own songs (occasionally made available online under the name "Martin Youth Auxiliary") have mostly been quickly-recorded lo-fi sketches unintended for widespread release. Field Manual represents the first time his own songs have been given the studio attention and thought-out approach to recording for which he is in such demand by others.

Due to Walla's honourary Australian status, the local release will have 2 bonus track, one of which is an Australian exclusive!!

The Late Night Sound. It is a sound we can all relate to but most likely have variably different ideas as to how it actually sounds. A late night sound in the minds of the new Australian band The Late Night Sound is that created by those at one with the early hours. But it doesn't end there; overnight travelling is a recurring theme with motels, roadside diners, barren landscapes and the road being of particular focus. Loneliness.

The band came together in a very unlikely and peculiar way, but that is another story for another time. What is interesting is The Late Night Sound contains members from such Sydney bands as Belles Will Ring, Sister Jane and The Tea Thieves. They have just recorded their debut single Silver Dreamers which is backed up with a B-side called On Your Own. They have all come together for a unified goal - to create the music you want to hear in the wee small hours of that Saturday morn, when the world is sleeping and it's just you and that gin & tonic. Hi all, we're happy to annouce that Belles Will Ring will be playing the Sydney Big Day Out on January 25th 2008!!

Cloud Control are a young four-piece who embrace the alt-folk tradition, with Neil Young-inspired vocals, boy/girl harmonies and inventive pop melodies. Made up of school friends and a brother/sister, the band gained profile after winning the 2006 Sydney University band competition and emerged as regulars on the Sydney gig circuit. Cloud Control has since received widespread radio airplay (Triple J, FBi, 3RRR, 4ZZZ, 2SER) and has supported international acts like Something For Kate, and The Brunettes (NZ).

The EP was recorded live to analogue tape inside a stone house in the lower mountains and produced in collaboration with Jon Hunter (Belles Will Ring/The Laurels) and mastered by Don Bartley.

The release has received overwhelmingly positive responses from street press and broadcasters in the wake of sold-out Sydney launches, including an inter-state tour to Melbourne and Brisbane. Cloud Control’s self-titled EP show-cases a depth of song-writing that is characterised by a playful, yet intelligent originality.

"My solo record is coming along nicely, despite the fact that the master drive was confiscated by US Homeland Security at the border (much of the record was recorded between Vancouver and Victoria, BC). I'm told it's at 'computer forensics in Quantico' but I wouldn't be able to tell you what that means in any real way; you see, there's exactly no customer service element to our federal government. Like, if you subscribe to Qwest or Comcast or something for your Internet service, and that service goes out, you can call them and complain and something happens (discounted bill; resumed service; credit; sincere apology; insincere apology; et cetera). But I'm here to tell you that if the drive containing your solo record is confiscated at the border, the feds don't have to do shit for you. And, in fact, they don't.

It's not a Kafka novel, and I'm not a prisoner at Guantanamo. My life isn't so bad. But still, this situation is a concrete and real reminder of what fuels the world we live in: It's fear and mistrust and suspicion. And oil.

You know what would would be great? If all the items seized in border searches were divvied up among the Senators to investigate. In my wildest dreams, my drive ends up on Arlen Specter's desk in Washington, and he studies the files with surgical precision. And maybe my little songs tip him forever away from the fence, in either direction.

In 2004, St. Louis USA's So Many Dynamos released their debut full length, "When I Explode”. It was not an Arcade Fire / Clap Your Hands Say Yeah indie rock breakout success story. It didn't catapult the band onto the front of magazine covers or land them backstage snorting lines off of Jack White's Grammy. It did however, do what debut full lengths should do for young bands from moderately ignored towns on small labels; it exposed the band to those willing to listen. They received nods from Spin Magazine and Entertainment Weekly among others, and acted as the hypothetical fuel (read: cheaper than real fuel) to carry a GMC Vandura across over 30 states for over 200 US shows.

Now So Many Dynamos return with "Flashlights", their second full-length and first for Australia & New Zealand.

"Flashlights" is the sophomore record that young bands from moderately ignored towns on small labels are supposed to make; it expands on their debut in every aspect. The band's unique brand of chaotic pop has been sharpened, refined. The songs are catchier, noisier, dancier, smarter, often weaving in and out, Frogger-style, between anthematic choruses and epileptic freakouts. The band has also learned how the recording studio works, harnessing the urgency of their live performances into ones and zeroes and throwing some unexpected instruments into the fold (4 piece horn section, 30 piece choir, toy accordion, banjo, thumb piano, etc).Calculated in conception and dead-on in execution, So Many Dynamos is a band intent on not half-arsing anything. They will continue to remind you that "infect" is the base word of "infectious". And perhaps, in the right time at the right place, if you allow yourself, they will crawl beneath your skin and force you to itch yourself into a dance you didn't know you knew the moves to.
